The Final Milk Route

After seventy-two years, the Bell family retired their glass-bottle milk delivery route and anchored the hand-drawn route map before selling the truck. Three generations knew the houses by porch light, dog bark, and who needed extra cream before Thanksgiving. On the final morning, the family drove the old route once more with empty bottles rattling in the back. Nobody needed the milk anymore. Everyone came outside anyway.
